V2_Website

Text about the V2_website of 2000. The V2_website was part of the DEAF00 exhibition.

The main goal of the ongoing V2_Webproject is the transformation of the existing V2_ website into a full-featured V2_portal. This V2_portal will offer an extensive set of content and functionalities aimed at the public and professionals in the field of Unstable Media. The V2_Archive database is a key component in the V2_portal.

Domains and functionalities

The V2_portal will address the needs of the different departments of V2_ and their target audiences. Information and functionalities can be tied to a specific V2_ 'domain'. For the V2_Store domain, an online ordering system with accurate product information is important. The V2_Lab domain centers around project workspaces and research reference materials. And the V2_Events domain requires extensive programme schedules and event registrations. For V2_ as a whole, it is important to make intersections between the different domains, enabling the V2_ audience to find different 'things' (events, people, products, ...) based on a common interest.

Views and navigation

Different users of the V2_portal will have different needs in terms of functionality and content. Some users may be looking for an e-mail address, while other users may want to do intensive research in the field of Unstable Media. To address these different needs, the V2_portal offers its content and functionality in different views: a 'functional' view, a 'time' view and a 'network' view. Different navigation tools are available: a hierarchical tree, a timeline, a semantic network and a search engine. The V2_portal keeps track of the user's behaviour and uses the data collected to actively suggest content for the user to explore.

Content and design

It is very important for the V2_portal to do justice to the rich and diverse character of the content in the V2_Archive. Therefore, the V2_portal features an interactive presentation style that is generated using an extensive set of presentation rules. There are different rules for different types of content and different output formats. For example, in the V2_portal a performance artist is shown in a visual and animated form, whereas a lecturer is shown in a form that features mainly text. The output format can vary from a dynamic Flash component to an easily printable full text to an XML fragment used for exchange with other organizations.

The V2_Webproject team features content experts, interaction designers and software engineers. A lot of effort is put into the exchange of knowledge in the areas of metadata, dynamic interfaces and web-based applications.
