Elizabeth Diller was born in Poland in 1954. She graduated from the Cooper Union School of Architecture in 1979, where she then worked as an assistant professor from 1981 to 1990. Later she became assistant professor at Princeton University.

In 1979, she formed Diller+Scofidio, a collaborative team, with Ricardo Scofidio. Their collective is involved in interdisciplinary work that incorporates architecture as well as the performing and visual arts.
