Brinks studied process engineering, major 'chemical textile technology', at the Saxion University for applied sciences in Enschede (de Maere). After that he studied Chemical Engineering, major 'biomedical materials' at the University of Twente.
He held various positions in Research and Development: groupleader and section manager at the pharmaceutical research of Organon (Akzo Nobel Pharma), R&D manager of Otares, Development Executive at Lever Industrial, Head of the Division Detergents Research of Unilever Research in Vlaardingen, Head of the technology Option group at Ubnilvere Research in Port Sunlight, and R&D director at Stork Prints.
He was chairman of the Dutch Textile Institute and board member of the textile research foundation De Voorzorg. He is co-founder and director of Perdix Technologies, an engineering company in the area of sensor technology. He is director of BMA~Techne, specialized in consultancy and interim management for R&D/innovation management. Brinks is associate at Boer & Croon end executes large complex R&D (re-)organisation projects. At present he is Global R&D director at Colbond in Arnhem.
He is secretary/treasurer of the foundation for research into structured materials (Textile Chair at the University of Twente). He is appointed as associate professor textile materials at the Saxion University for Applied Sciences in Enschede. He is the chairman of the Kenniscentrum Design & Technology of the Saxion.
Brinks is the author of several patents and publications in various areas.
