Gerard Unger was born 1942 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He studied graphic design at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where he teaches as well since 1970. His typeface designs include faces for the Amsterdam public transport company, Joh. Enschedéen Zonen, R. Hell GmbH, Philips Data Systems, Océ, Bitstream and a special numbering system for the Dutch phone books.
