Marta Braun writes about chronophotographers E.-J. Marey and Eadweard  Muybridge. Her internationally acclaimed Picturing Time: The Work of Etienne-Jules Marey 1830-1904 (University of Chicago Press, 1992), was shortlisted for Britain's Kraszna-Krausz award for the best internationally published book in photography. She won this prize as co-author of Beauty of Another Order: Photography and Science in 1996, the year she was made a knight of the Palmes Académiques by the French
Government. Braun has also curated several exhibits, including Freeze Frame: Eadweard Muybridge's Photography of Motion in 2000 at the National Museum of American History. She is currently the director of the graduate program in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management at Ryerson University in Toronto Canada and writing on Eadweard Muybridge for the 2010 exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington.
