Martin Pawley is an architectural writer and critic with a weekly column in the London Architects' Journal. He is consultant editor to World Architecture magazine, which he edited from 1992 to 1996. He studied architecture at the Oxford School of Architecture, at the Ecole Normale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Paris, and at the Architectural Association, London. After some years of practice he taught at the AA, at Cornell University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Florida A&M University and UCLA. He was architecture critic of The Guardian newspaper from 1984 to 1991, and architecture critic of The Observer newspaper from 1992 to 1995. Through the six-year life of the programme he was a regular contributor to the BBC2 arts programme The Late Show.
