Otto E. Rössler

For Otto E. Rössler (DE), an endophysicist, the Now is pure interface. The world is pure interface. Only consciousness is more (pure substance). But within its shadowy recesses, we have nothing but interface.

Chaosphysicist Otto E. Rössler, born an Austrian in Berlin, finished his medical studies with an immunological dissertation in Tübingen in 1966. In 1975, Art Winfree initiated him into chaos. A tenured faculty position in theoretical biochemistry at the University of Tübingen came in 1976, after he had published his paper on the "simplest" chaotic attractor (as Ed Lorenz later put it). A member of the Santa Fe Institute and a fellow of the International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics, he authored about 140 papers on chaos and about the same number on other topics - including biogenesis, dynamical automata, artifical life (with an equation for a brain), artificial persons and quasar theory. For V2_, he published the essay The World as an Accident in 1998s The Art of the Accident.

He co-authored Encounter with Chaos with Jürgen Parisi, Joachim Peinke and Ruedi Stoop (1992), and is the author of Das Flammenschwert, oder Wie hermetisch ist die Schnittstelle des Mikrokonstruktivismus? (The Sword of Flames, or How hermetic is the interface of microconstructivism?, 1996), and Endophysics: The World as an Interface (1998).

In 2000, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, the ZKM organized the International Symposium Sciences of the Interface, and published a book with the same title.

Otto Rössler is partial about his project Lampsacus.
