René Boomkens (NL) is a cultural philosopher.

René Boomkens is Professor in Social and Cultural Philosophy at the University of Groningen and Professor in Popular Music at the University of Amsterdam. As a philosopher and a writer, Boomkens has taught and organized courses at the universities of Nijmegen and Amsterdam. He also worked as a program organizer for De Balie in Amsterdam. He was the founding editor of the journal Krisis (1980-1993) and has published widely about many aspects of contemporary and popular culture. Boomkens promoted on the philosophy of the modern city, and experience and public life in modern urban environments: The "Middle Landscape" and the Myth of Mobility: Coming Home in Commuter Country.
