Richard Reynolds started missed gardening  in his 10-story high-rise in London, and started gardening at night. In 2004, he began recording his cultivation activities. He summarizes this with "Let's fight the filth with forks and flowers", meaning the neglect and scarcity of public spaces, which should be addressed by making them beautiful and (ideally) tasty.

In 2008, he published On Guerrilla Gardening: A Handbook for Gardening Without Boundaries.

Richard Reynolds participated in the LIFE & ART 1: TransAgriculture event on December 19, 2008.
