book cover

Aesthetic Journalism addresses a growing area of focus in contemporary art, and investigates why contemporary art uses journalistic and documentary processes and how an aesthetic approach (in turn) can be implemented into the journalistic realm

Aesthetic journalism, in my view, should work on the border of reality and fiction, using documentary techniques and journalistic methods but self-reflecting on those means; ultimately, it is not about delivering information but questioning it, reversing the tradition of both fields (art and journalism).

Art theorist and critic Alfredo Cramerotti traces the shift in the production of truth from the domain of the news media to that of art and aestheticism – a change that questions the very foundations of journalism and the nature of art. This volume challenges the way we understand art and journalism in contemporary culture and suggests future developments of this new relationship.

Aesthetic Journalism is published by Intellect.

Alfredo Cramerotti (and Simon Sheikh) then curated the show All that Fits: The Aesthetics of Journalism (2011). http://www.we-make-money-not-art.com/archives/2011/07/the-aesthetics-of-journalism.php
