Internationaal Beeldfestival Rotterdam 2009

Rotterdam has a new festival: the first edition of the Internationaal Beeldfestival Rotterdam (IBFR) will take place on October 30 and 31 in the Lloydkwartier. Various institutions from Rotterdam and elsewhere are contributing to this wide-ranging new festival. V2_ has invited Julius von Bismark to present his "Image Fulgurator" project.

Image Fulgurator, Julius von Bismarck

30
Oct 2009
31
Oct 2009
location: Schiecentrale Studios, Lloydstraat 5

In 2007, Julius von Bismarck came up with an ingenious way of subtly manipulating other people’s photographs right under the maker’s nose. In a much-talked-about series of actions in 2008 and 2009, von Bismarck showed that even the political messages of Barack Obama and Mao Zedong weren’t safe from the Image Fulgurator. The project won von Bismarck the Prix Ars Electronica for best interactive artwork at the Ars Electronica Festival 2008 in Linz, Austria.

About the festival

The Internationaal Beeldfestival Rotterdam (IBFR) seeks to show its audience a cross-section of visual culture and industry. A broad focus and definition of ‘image’ are essential to this task. The festival will therefore encompass a variety of disciplines and involve a mix of creators, thinkers, inspirers and users from the worlds of traditional and digital media. With its fascinating range of seminars, presentations and installations, the IBFR is the premier destination for a broad group of clients, creators, students and other interested parties.
