The art project The World in a Shell embodies ways in which interdisciplinary collaborations between artists, architects, and scientists can lead to innovative answers to challenges of sustainability. This seminar took a closer look at the interdisciplinary collaborative process that led to The World in a Shell and compared it to those of similar exemplary collaborative art-architecture-science sustainability projects. Which roles do, can, and should artists, architects, and scientists play within such collaborations? And how can such collaborations be encouraged and thus be made more sustainable themselves?
