Out of Balance!
The planned cuts to arts and culture are totally out of balance!
Eerst waren er de types met designbrilletjes, toen de linkse elite en vervolgens de subsidiegraaiers - de kunstsector - die een lesje geleerd moest worden. Dit is het beeld dat door de PVV wordt uitgedragen als er over kunst en cultuur gesproken wordt. Toen kwam het kabinet Rutte en de daad werd bij het woord gevoegd.
De aangekondigde bezuinigingen op de culturele sector bedragen minimaal 25% van het totale budget van 800 miljoen euro. Hiermee maakt het kabinet een statement over het maatschappelijk belang dat ze hechten aan kunst en cultuur waarvan de begroting slechts 0,5 procent van de totale rijksbegroting uitmaakt - oftewel enkele kilometers snelweg.
De culturele sector wordt hiermee onevenredig zwaar getroffen. Dit zal leiden tot een langdurige en ingrijpende verslechtering van het kunst-, cultuur- en leefklimaat in Nederland.
Teken ook de petitie tegen de plannen van het kabinet. Op de website Stop Culturele Kaalslag hebben al meer dan 60.000 mensen de petitie ondertekend.

As expected, the VVD, CDA and PVV parties in the Netherlands have agreed to make deep cuts to government arts funding. Their disastrous new coalition agreement slashes the cultural budget by more than 200 million euros.
The new cabinet’s plans directly threaten the continued existence of countless Dutch cultural institutions. These cuts amount to a quarter of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science’s budget which is only 0.5 percent of the total government budget. The arts sector will thus receive a disproportionately hard blow. The result will be a drastic longterm worsening of the artistic and cultural climate in the Netherlands.
Sign the petition protesting the cabinet’s plans on the Stop Culturele Kaalslag (‘Stop Cultural Demolition’) website. More than 60,000 people have signed so far.
