Symposium on Media Art / Design Laboratories

Opening of the "Tsinghua Media Arts Research Laboratory" with a symposium for international media labs in Beijing.

On June 11 and 12, 2010, CEO’s of Tsinghua University (CN), the Parsons School of Design (US), MIT Media Lab (US), Future Lab / Ars Electronica Linz (AT), Eyebeam New York (US), V2_Institute for the Unstable Media, and other media institutes, attended a two-day conference in Beijing organized on the occasion of the opening of the new Tsinghua Media Arts Research Laboratory.

The new laboratory is conceived as a research and production unit, which aims to synergize the rich resources available among the diverse research institutions and laboratories of the university. It will function as an incubator for crossbred, interdisciplinary experiments among artists, designers, scientists and technologists.

Among the artist that presented their work during the conference was Dutch artist Marnix de Nijs. He presented his new installation 15 minutes of Biometric Fame that he developed  in the spring of 2010 during his stay at Tshingua University as part of an Artist-in-Residence pilot. V2_ was a key partner in the series of events that led to the founding of the unique collaboration project between Tsinghua University, Parsons New School of Design and V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media. More international labs will join this project in the nearby future.
