Artist-in-residencies
Big in Beijing
V2_Lab and Tsinghua University’s pilot begins. Artist Marnix de Nijs is currently working in Beijing with a team from Tsinghua University on a new installation provisionally titled "15 Minutes of Biometric Fame." It is a follow-up to the successful "Physiognomic Scrutinizer."
Summer Sessions 2010
Summer in the city: time for the V2_ Summer Sessions. With Joachim Rotteveel, Ivan Henriques, Anouk Wipprecht and Mark Shepard.
SPASM
In Spatial Audio, Boris Debackere researched spatial sound in general and its application within mixed and augmented reality in particular. This involved the technical aspects of placing sounds in a space, how the user experiences that space, and how a composition can be controlled by the user’s movements.
Through the Looking Glass
Jonas Hielscher’s research focused on the visual aspects of augmented reality. Two demos were produced in the context of this residency, Last Pawn and Human Sandbox.
Exercise in Immersion 4.1
Marnix de Nijs’ research continues his earlier investigation into immersive experiences. The relationship between the real world and the virtual one is explored and brought into focus; the two are literally mixed in the “real world” in a search for a new balance. The goal of the research is to acquire better insight into the artistic possibilities of immersion in general and augmented reality in particular.
GATC/life
GATC/life is a virtual reality project inspired by the human genome. The work was realized at the Erasmus Medical Center’s I-Space.
Nybble-Engine-Toolz
A nybble is the unit of half a byte, or four bits, which is the basis of every digital conversion. As the numeric equivalent of binary code, it exemplifies the internal logic of software that transforms codes and protocols on a server into various representations.
Soft(n)
"Soft[n]" is an interactive installation in a lounge-like space based on the exploration of behavior arising through visitor interaction with a group of soft, networked objects.
The World Ensemble
The World Ensemble is an interactive installation with audiovisual automata. The viewer can manipulate the direction of movement of the work by moving a mouse.
Media Vintage
With "Media Vintage", Melissa Coleman writes/sews a memorial to obsolete media. Information stored on digital carriers is vulnerable and transient. In this respect, physical things, like books, are worth more. How might textiles work as a storage medium?
City Interactive
City Interactive is an announcement of the city as an art object and an investigation of it as an interactive media space. By using physical manipulation and navigation of real objects, language and intelligence, as well as historical, philosophical, social and political factors of a city, Akuvido will create an interactive multimedia view of a modern city on the internet.
SHAREWEAR
SHAREWEAR is an investigative fashion and technology collaboration involving Di Mainstone and V2_.
Tweet Bubble Series
The Tweet Bubble Series consists of four wearable speech bubble prototypes developed in collaboration between artist Aram Bartholl and V2_Lab. All four prototypes are based on the idea that a Twitter user shows his/her latest Twitter post in the form of a wearable speech bubble on the clothing in public.
Vertical Irrigation System - second variation
Installation of an autonomous irrigation system can bring barren places in the city back to life, with no tending needed after installation.
Deep Limb Sensation
In augmented- and virtual-reality environments one is often represented by avatars or virtual bodies/limbs. Deep Limb Sensation exploits this disconnection between our physical bodies and our bodies as we conceive them by having a person use their real arm to activate a "phantom" limb in a virtual world.
Whisper
For the period June-July 2002 Thecla Schiphorst (CDN) & Susan Kozel (CDN/GB) were invited to further develop their project "whisper" at the V2_Lab and the Rotterdam City Theater. The research done during the residency will result in a participatory installation exhibited at DEAF03_Data Knitting.
